Jewellery Care

Please remember to try to store your jewellery pieces individually so they don’t scratch, keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled and close hoop earrings. Silver and gold vermeil jewellery will naturally tarnish and oxidise with time and wear.

We advise not to swim, or shower while wearing gold vermeil jewellery, and remove rings when washing your hands. Chlorine, salt water, shower products, perfume, hairspray, lotions and deodorant can tarnish your jewellery (especially gold vermeil) and make them look dull. Avoid wearing pieces in bed.

You can clean your jewellery with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and warm soapy water - this will bring back shine to your pieces and rub off light oxide.

We plate our Sterling silver jewellery with 23.7 carat gold. Gold-plating is a surface layer and will wear over time. Earrings and necklaces tend not to get as much wear as rings. We offer an affordable re-plating service to our customers. Please enquire for more details via email enquiries@melanieostlerjewellery.com
